Sometimes, all you really want to find is a proper good old classic town pub. And that’s exactly what The British Lion in Devizes stands for – a place for great beer and great company. As the only independent freehouse in Devizes, it’s easy to see why The British Lion has such a long standing, loyal following, including customers and staff. Situated in the very centre of the historic market town of Devizes, from the outside it has a classic aesthetic, which is matched inside. With a large wooden beamed bar, traditional jukebox, cushioned bar stools, framed awards and various artwork from different breweries. It’s clear they know their stuff when it comes to beer. The care and knowledge that they dedicate to creating the best range of ales and cider in the town is clear from the very moment you walk into the bar, and is something of a passion for the landlord and staff. No wonder it attracts such large numbers of locals and tourists alike.
Their selection of local and craft ales rotate regularly to keep the offering fresh and interesting, as well as helping to support smaller breweries. It’s the largest beer garden in the town, and offers plenty of space for social distancing, a covered area too for the rainier days and when the weather behaves the back lawned garden – is a fabulous suntrap.
