Pub of the Week: The Eagle Tavern, Faringdon
This large red bricked pub, in the centre of the quaint village of Little Coxwell, is at the heart of the village. Dated back to 1901, The Eagle Tavern was built to serve the farming community, and has now evolved into a fine eatery and inn, with 6 boutique rooms for guests to stay in, which makes it the perfect pitstop in the heart of the White Horse countryside in Wiltshire.
From the outside it has kept its rustic aesthetic, but inside it has transformed into a modern country restaurant. With calm tones on the walls, colourful modern artwork and large wooden tables perfectly set with candles and frosted glasses, so it feels light and airy. Split into two sections – the bar area and the restaurant, the horseshoe shaped bar holds a couple of select ales, including our Ramsbury Gold, and our Red Ram Craft lager which features as their house lager. The ideal starter upon arrival is to begin with a classic local beer, and then when ordering food, take a peek at their exquisite wine list that has been carefully selected to complement the dishes on offer. Which brings us to the menu, where simple, seasonal dishes take the lead. With local produce, served in a tranquil setting it is impossible not to feel relaxed and looked after.
If you would like a meal, or a stay away for a special occasion, The Eagle Tavern is a place to enjoy oneself, be that for an evening or a weekend. And enjoy in serious comfort, at that.
