Pub of the Week: The Shed Ale House, Pewsey
This week we’ve taken a trip over to Pewsey, a large village south of Marlborough, synonymous with its chalk White Horse carved on the hill. This quiet and pretty village is home to the Shed Ale House, a wonderfully compact micro-pub. Since opening in 2015, it has become THE place, for locals and tourists alike, to go when in search for locally brewed ales and lagers. Its main focus is simple: to serve a range of ever-rotating microbreweries’ beers for customers to try and enjoy. It holds a relaxing atmosphere for a place so small, is friendly and the perfect place to duck into out of the (sadly, summer) rain. Inside, you’ll meet a whole host of different characters, and is certainly a great after work, or pre-dinner, pit-stop to enjoy some proper craft beer.
With décor akin to its name, it feels much like walking into your very own backyard bar. The light wooden cladding, outdoor garden lights, rustic garden shovels and vintage signs lining the walls gives it a personal touch that you can’t help falling in love with. It is a home from home, in mini-pub form! The high tables are set to the left, with soft green garden cushions, with plenty of room to the right to head to the bar. At the back of The Shed Ale House, the bar is fitted with 6 different beers – 5 ales and 1 craft lager that change regularly to keep things fresh and interesting. On the bar at the moment, there is our summer ale, Mango IPA and our craft lager Red Ram. In fact, they served their 1000th cask the other day, and it was a delightful pint of fresh and fruity Mango IPA nonetheless! If you’d like to try a mini selection of the beers on the bar, they do ‘tasters’ which you could order as a ‘trowel’ of thirds for a proper beer tasting session. If you’re not a beer drinker, they have a few ciders and some wine too. Despite its little size, there is a large variety of drinks on the bar, with a little something for everyone. The Shed Ale House is the perfect example of transforming a space, and creating something really special. Simply relax and enjoy one another’s company, whilst sipping on truly exceptional beer.
